Blue Giant Introduces the Industry’s First Air Cylinder Dock Leveler

Brampton, ON, Canada (December 2010) – Blue Giant Equipment Corporation has launched a dock leveler whose unique design and operating features will change the industry standard for air-actuated dock equipment. Introduced to the market on December 7th, the U-Series Air Cylinder Dock Leveler (patent pending) is already creating a buzz.

“The Air Cylinder Dock Leveler is a revolutionary product,” says Gregory Ion, Blue Giant’s Vice-President of Engineering and Product Development. “Propelled by a tankless, oil-free compressor, it operates as smoothly and safely as a hydraulic dock, but there is no fuel refill cost or risk of environmental contamination. This dock will help facilities become greener without restricting themselves to limited-performance equipment.”

Ion confirms that both the deck and lip cylinders are completely air-powered, decreasing operating costs while maintaining heavy-duty performance levels.  The Air Cylinder Dock Leveler also offers independent lip control, which reduces operator cycle time, lowers energy consumption, and increases efficiency. The absence of airbags or trays under the deck enable a clean pit, making the unit an ideal solution for food-processing facilities and other applications requiring high cleanliness levels.  The air cylinder lifting technology eliminates safety concerns associated with airbag dock levelers, such as punctured bags and inability to halt dock travel during an emergency.

The Air Cylinder Dock Leveler is available in rated capacities of 30-45,000 lbs (13,636-20,454 kgs). The deck structure is supported by a minimum of six (6) U-beams, with at least twelve distributed load points. The deck will flex up to 4” (101mm) when under load to compensate for canted truck beds. Its fixed rear hinge remains flush with the floor during use, eliminating pinch points and cross-traffic obstructions.  In markets where a floating rear hinge is preferred, customers may request assured motion float, a 4” (101mm) maintained deck tilt that lets the dock leveler accommodate heavier loads without experiencing deck fatigue.

The U-Series Air Cylinder Dock Leveler comes standard with the popular Blue Genius™ Gold Series I Touch Control Panel. This advanced control station’s LCD menu screen displays clear instructions for operating and troubleshooting the dock leveler via touch-sensitive buttons. A STOP button freezes the dock in mid-deployment should an emergency situation arise, and the touch keypad supports supervisory options such as password protection.
