Building for Growth
How Blue Giant Solutions Transformed a Manufacturing Facility’s Loading Docks
The Company
A leading manufacturing plant in Port Hope, Ontario was expanding its operations and needed to increase its loading dock capacity. To support their growing business, they required three new loading dock positions that would seamlessly integrate with their existing infrastructure while maintaining efficiency, safety, and durability.
The Problem
With the facility’s production expanding, they faced the challenge of constructing additional loading dock positions to meet operational demand. This included cutting through the building’s walls, installing doors, constructing dock pits, and ensuring that the new equipment met stringent safety and performance requirements. They needed a solution that was seamless, durable, and built for long-term operational efficiency.

The Solution
To bring this project to life, the facility turned to Blue Giant’s industry-leading loading dock solutions, ensuring a reliable and high-performing dock system for years to come. The installation was expertly handled by Northern Dock Systems, an authorized Blue Giant dealer known for their professionalism and commitment to quality service.
New Door Openings & Sectional Door Installation
The first step was creating three new wall openings, reinforced with steel framing for structural integrity. The facility then installed Insulated Steel Sectional Doors on full vertical lifts, maintaining a consistent appearance with existing dock doors. Each door was equipped with photo-eye sensors and wired safety edges, reinforcing workplace safety.
Dock Pit Construction & Hydraulic Dock Levelers
Once the doors were in place, dock pits were excavated from the existing floor to accommodate new dock levelers. Each position was outfitted with a Blue Giant Hydraulic Dock Leveler with a pour-in pan, providing a heavy-duty, push-button solution for effortless and low-maintenance operation. These levelers ensure smooth and safe loading and unloading, helping to prevent forklift damage and operational downtime.
Hydraulic Vehicle Restraints for Maximum Safety
To further enhance safety, each dock position was equipped with a Blue Giant StrongArm® SVR303 Hydraulic Vehicle Restraint, featuring a 35,000 lb restraining force to securely lock trailers in place during loading and unloading. These restraints help prevent unexpected trailer movement, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.
Impact Protection
To maximize energy efficiency and protect the new equipment, Steel Face Dock Bumpers were added to prevent damage from repeated trailer impact, ensuring long-term dock durability.
